Lynne funny

I was halfway to the car for church today when I noticed that I was still wearing the incredibly toasty fur lined comfy slippers that Ethan gave me for Christmas!

Enjoy your day. We had several big organizational changes in our Ward today. And the Bishop gave a great 5th Sunday lesson on the difference between the gospel and the church. Good lesson for the beginning of the new year. A lot to think about and then do.

Blue and White Splendor and a few other things

I have been out of commision for almost 2 weeks. Somehow I threw my back out and I'm still not feeling 100%. Dave did get me to the Chiropractor for the first time. Kind of scary.

Well this is long over due. I still don't have a label on it but it is bound and I am still in love with it.
Jane (my friend that quilted it) named it the Blue and White Splendor. Perfect name.

I cannot get high enough to take a shot of the whole quilt

Now on the other things. At the beginning of Nov. I got the chance to go to Jonas's baptism. I am so proud of him. I flew into Las Vegas and stayed over night with Kaylee and family. Derek made some fantastic venison stew for us. My Dad drove up and then we drove up to Idaho Falls together, picking up Matt on the way.

This is Jonas with Grandpa Blethen who baptized him and Great grandpa Doty who confirmed him.

I am so glad I was there.

I am having problems putting pictures on the post today so here is another shot of my favorite quilt of the moment.

This is an experiment. I was testing out a pattern that I found. I have never sewn a bag like this before and I wanted to see how it would turn out. I just picked out a couple of coordinating fabrics from my stash and knocked it out one day a few weeks ago.
Not to hard to put together. It has two pockets on the outside where the diagonal line is.

Would anyone like it?

Have a nice day!

Dad's visit and misc.

Dad came to visit for a week. We had a good time and I'm so glad he got to visit. I can tell he is missing mom and so am I.

We visited the Marine Corp museum which is really close to us and learned a lot. And we took a trip out to the Manassas Civil War battlefield. That was really interesting.

A few weeks ago I ordered my new walking foot so that I can straight line quilt on my home machine. This is what it looks like:
I finished my red and white table quilt or wall hanging right away!

It is approx. 22" square. I got this kit when I was in San Marcos. You use Thangles to make the HST. Thangles are strips of paper that you sew strips of fabric to and then just cut them apart. It is a bit easier then cutting squares, sewing then trimming.

I have also finished my tetris quilt, but haven't taken any pictures yet.

Ethan has his first choir concert next week. This is the picture I got of him on the first day of 9th grade. Not to excited!

That's all folks.

My blue and white quilt is almost finished

I can't wait to show you this quilt.
My friend, Jane Hair, does long arm quilting as a business. She does amazing work. When I started making this quilt I knew I wanted her to quilt it for me. I knew I couldn't doing anything close to what she can do. So here it is. Cara just went and picked it up and took these pictures. I couldn't wait to see it in person.
Just Amazing!
I am in awe!
Love it!
Thank you so much Jane! Now to get it here so that I can bind it and put it to use.

New furniture

This is a couple of the things Dave and I bought for the house so far.

A new kitchen table. It is counter height and the sides fold out to make it bigger. We got six chairs, two of which were broken and will be replaced this next week. Dave and Ethan put them together.

This is our new file cabinet in the office.

And this is one of the things I am working on in the sewing "studio".

The colored pencils are there for scale. You know I love small pieces! This is a kit I got at a quilt shop in San Marcos. It uses a product called Thangles to make the HST (half square triangles). You don't have to do math involving 7/8 so it makes them much easier that way, but there are a lot of steps. So far I've got 4 completely done, three more half done and 9 others to cut and sew.

Now a couple of things about my last post about my sewing "studio". Megan suggested I call it that. The jars of fruit are going to be a wall hanging or a table runner. Let me know if you want one, I have lots of fruits and veggies. Maybe you'll get one for Christmas. Who knows. And Megan asked about my ironing board placement. The room is small and I can't even open the closet door all the way with the new table, so I can't move the tables over to make room behind my chair.

Ethan starts high school on Tuesday. Yeah!

This is his sad haircut day.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

Sewing Room

Hi everyone.

Dave and I finally went shopping for some furniture yesterday. Most of it has to come from the warehouse so we'll pick it up Tues. or Wed. But I got a killer deal on a counter height table that I am going to use in my sewing room as a cutting table. Love it. Here are pics of my whole sewing room so far. I might change up a few things.

The new table. It's great, no more back ache bending over.

My sewing table with the design wall beside it. Those are temporary curtains. I am just trying to decide what to do on the windows.

The ironing board that is essential in quilting. Don't like it right in front of the bookcase but I like it close to the sewing machine.

Some of my stash of fabric. I have plastic bins in the closet too. Oh and my roll of batting I bought from Christine before moving! Enough for a few quilts I hope.

And my sewing view. I am working on getting a good deal on a walking foot. So I can get started. I decided after seeing Rachelle quilting on Liz's quilt I will piece quilt tops then send them to her to quilt on Chris's long arm. She is getting good.

So that is my sewing room.

Are these cute or what? Do you want one?

I have loved this fabric since I saw it. It is called Full Circle by Kathy Schmitz.  I took me awhile to find the right pattern to use with it. I finished it and Carol Burkhalter quilted it for me. She has a computerized long arm machine and did this all over meander with hearts. It was a great gift to me before I moved.

That's all I have for today. Enjoy your day.

What have we been up to?

This is what Dave has been doing.  2 ceiling fans and 2 window blinds.  I just walk around trying to find a place for everything. I did sew some things last week, but no pictures. And I had to give the walking foot back to Vivian that she was so kind to let me borrow for the last two years! So I need to save up and buy myself one if I'm ever going to put a quilt together again.

This is Tyler's baby quilt that I never blogged about. I got the kit from Chris's shop before I went to Sequim last summer. And I sewed it after everyone else left. I was hoping to get it done there but we were having to much fun.

Hi everyone, I know, I know. It has been forever. So I've been pushed encouraged to do a post. As you know we have moved. Unfortunately I have not done any sewing on the machine since I got here.  Last week I joined a quilt along just to get the juices flowing. More on that later.  This is a picture of the picnic quilt I made out of jeans. I sewed the top when we were in Sequim last summer and finished the quilting when we got home. I cut 5" squares. I found the red jeans at a thrift shop.

Megan and the boys visited us in March. We loved seeing the boys. (and her, too)

Before I moved I made a mini quilt for my quilting friends. This was for Carol.

This one was for Deor.

This one was for Jane.

This one was for Lelia.

This one was for Vivian. Hers was the smallest, those little green squares are 1/2 inch.

And finally this one was for Christine. I am going to miss these lovely ladies. They are good friends. And they taught me a lot about quilting.

Ethan graduated in May from 8th grade. Wow, he's in high school.

This is a sample quilt that I made for Christine's shop. I was rushing to get it done before I left. And here is the back.

This is Ethan's new guitar he got for his birthday.

So that is my photo intense update post. I will put more about the new house in the future.
